Real therapeutic support: an in-house psychologist and reflective practice, not just a rota.
Residential Support Worker, children’s home, Croydon
The heart of the home. Day-to-day care, relationships, routines, keeping children safe and helping them thrive.
About the role
Our support workers are the heart of the home. You will care for one or two children who have experienced adversity, loss or disruption, helping them feel safe, build routines, and slowly learn to trust the adults around them. This is long-term work in a small, settled home, not crisis cover. You will be there day to day: cooking together, getting to school, managing the hard moments with patience, and being a steady, reliable presence a child can count on. You will live PACE day to day (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy), with an in-house psychologist supporting you and the child. You will never be left to carry a hard day alone.
About the home, and Oasis
Oasis Manor Care runs a small, growing group of Ofsted-registered children's homes in Croydon, South London. Every home is long-term, and PACE is woven through everyday life (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy), with an in-house psychologist supporting every child and every member of staff. We are a quality-led group, growing carefully, so there is real room to grow with us.
What you will do
- Provide warm, consistent day-to-day care for the children in the home.
- Build trusting relationships and help children develop routines, confidence and independence.
- Support education, health appointments, activities and contact arrangements.
- Keep children safe, following safeguarding procedures and the home’s plans for each child.
- Keep clear, honest records of the day and any concerns.
- Work as part of a team, including sleep-in shifts on a rota.
What we look for
- A genuine care for young people who have experienced adversity, loss or disruption, and the patience to earn trust slowly.
- Reliability and emotional steadiness. Children who have been let down need adults who turn up.
- Good communication and the openness to reflect on difficult shifts.
- You do not need prior experience in children’s residential care. Many of our best people came from outside the sector. Experience in care, education, youth work or similar helps but is not essential.
Requirements
- The right to work in the UK.
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check (we will arrange this).
- A full UK driving licence (to be confirmed).
- You will be supported to complete the Level 3 Diploma for the Residential Childcare workforce within your first two years, as the role requires.
